Dream Journals
In the blog labeled “Dreams”, I touch base on what a dream is and what to do if you cannot remember your dream. If you have not read that blog, I do recommend reading before diving into dream journaling.
So, what is Dream Journaling?
It is literally logging your dream in a specified notebook for you to reflect on. This book can be as basic or as fancy in appearance as you’d like. My first dream journal was a green spiral notebook I purchased from a local Dollar Tree.
How To Set Up Your Journal
First, make sure you list the date. Next, make a title of your dream. It does not have to be extensive or fancy, short and sweet is fine. Next, in present tense write out your dream. Note any symbols and feelings you see and experience in the dream. After that, create a story line. The story line is not the summary, but the main action or points with out detail words. For example, chasing a butterfly, keep missing, sits quietly and the butterfly then approaches. With this information is there an area of your life that you are chasing someone or something and you are not being successful? Your guides are telling you to be patient, do not stress and to let it come to you. The advice from your guides or your psyche is typically found at the end of the dream. If after reviewing a dream, and you feel it does not currently resonate with you or you do not find it relatable revisit the dream in a few days or a few weeks. Do not just discard the dream!
If a dream has multiple scenes or you feel you have more than one dream, it can be a series of messages related to one topic. For Instance, the first dream could state the problem or what needs your conscious focus. The next dream could state a possible resolution. It is also possible that having multiple dreams could be focusing on the same topic and your psyche or guides are really trying to drive the point home!
Seeing another person could be a version of yourself being reflected to you. Do you have similar traits? What are two positives and two negatives of this person? This person could also be acting out a relationship or be that actual person.
Symbols in dreams can be related to a past memory, a reflection of how you feel about that symbol currently or have its own significant definition as symbols align both the emotional and intellectual parts of the conveyed message.
Another helpful tip is that spoken words are often literal so pay attention to what is said in the dream.
